  78. INSTALLAION
  79.   REGISTERED VERSION
  80.   If you are installing the registered version of this program, simply
  81.   insert the disc you received into your external drive and run the
  82.   setup program discribed below.  The disc contains all the necessary
  83.   files to run WinFin.
  84.  
  85.   BBS DOWNLOAD
  86.   If you downloaded the program from a BBS, you must unzip the files into
  87.   a temporary directory on your hard disc, i.e., "C:\temp".  The total
  88.   size of the unzipped files is greater than 1.44Meg and will not fit on
  89.   a single floopy.  See "SETUP PROGRAM" below for instructions to install
  90.   the program.  After installation, you can delete the unzipped files in
  91.   the temporary diectory. Note:  In order to conserve space on the BBS
  92.   and minimize your download time, the file VBRUN300.DLL may not be
  93.   included in you download.  You probably already have this file in your
  94.   \windows\system directory.  If not, it is readily available on most
  95.   BBS's.  Search for VBRUN3.Zip, etc.

  97.   FROM A CD-ROM
  98.   The files are already unzipped, uncompressed and ready to run.  Simply
  99.   execute WINFIN.EXE or use the menu interface provided with the CD-ROM.
  100.   See "SETUP PROGRAM" below for instructions to install the program.

  102.   FROM A SHAREWARE DISC VENDOR
  103.   Disc vendors frequently provide their own installation program to
  104.   transfer the files from the disc to your hard drive.  If not, look
  105.   for the file setup.exe and follow the instructions below for running
  106.   the setup  program.

  108.   SETUP PROGRAM
  109.   The setup program, setup.exe will copy runtime and program files to the
  110.   proper directories on your hard disc.  It will also create a Windows
  111.   Program Group with icons to run the program and bring up the
  112.   instruction manual for easy printing.
  113.  
  114.   From program manager, select 'File' and then 'Run'.  Type in the drive
  115.   and path that hold the program files to be installed, followed by the
  116.   setup program SETUP.EXE.  Thus from the external drive, you would use:

  118.  A:SETUP.EXE

  120.   or if the program files were stored in a directory called "temp" on
  121.   your C drive:
  122.  
  123.  C:\Temp\SETUP.EXE

  125.   you may run the setup.exe from File Manager, by double clicking
  126.   on SETUP.EXE in your A drive.

  128.   You will be asked to enter a directory for the program files.  If it
  129.   does not exist, it will be created.  The program files will be copied
  130.   to this directory and the other files copied to you WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  131.   directory.  A program manager group for WinFin is created.  Double
  132.   click on the "Instructions" to bring up this file and print it out.
  133.   No changes to your Config.Sys, Autoexec.Bat or INI files are made.

  135.   PLEASE take the time to printout, or at least read, the WINFIN.WRI
  136.   file.  These are the instructions for the program.

  138. PROBLEMS
  139.   It is best to close ALL programs except Program Manager when running
  140.   the setup program.
  141.  
  142.   This setup program copies several files to your \windows\system
  143.   directory.  If you experience a problem during installation or
  144.   trying to run WinFin, it is most likely due to an older version of
  145.   one of these files elsewhere on your hard disk, probably in your
  146.   \windows directory.  Thus when WinFin loads it looks for these files
  147.   and uses the first one of the name it needs.  If this is an older
  148.   version, you will get an error message.
  149.  
  150.   For example, after a successful installation and upon running WinFin,
  151.   you may get an error message saying you are using an old version of
  152.   CMDIALOG.VBX.  The reason is that when WINFIN.EXE loads, it looks for
  153.   CMDIALOG.VBX.  If you have an old version in your \windows directory
  154.   and a new version in your  \windows\system directory, the program
  155.   will use the first one it comes across in your path.  The cure for
  156.   this problem is to do a file search for the file named as causing
  157.   the problem.  You may be surprised to find the same file name in 2
  158.   or 3 different locations.  The only one you want is the the most
  159.   current one which will be in your \windows\system directory.  Rename
  160.   the other copies to CMDIALOG.OLD.  When you do this you may get
  161.   another error notice that the file is in use and cannot be renamed
  162.   or deleted.  If this happens, simply exit windows and you may even
  163.   have to reboot.  You may have to rename or delete the file from DOS.
  164.   Remember, you want the files in \windows\system, so these should not
  165.   be deleted or renamed.
